Develop and refine your observational drawing practice through close examination and drawing of a variety of wild specimens right in Grand Marais. During walking visits to nearby nature sites such as Artists’ Point, Sweethearts’ Bluff and the Wildflower Sanctuary we will engage in the opportunity to create studies varying from timed observational contour drawings to fully formed experimentations. Local ecologist, Chel Anderson, will accompany the class for a one-hour walking tour to share her botanical knowledge of the area. This course provides an excellent opportunity for students to develop and enhance their ability to observe and study the details of the plant life all around us. In addition to observational drawing techniques, learn and engage with a variety of experimental drawing and wet media techniques with a focus on gouache painting. Botanical drawing is a valuable way to grow your drawing practice, to learn to see with a more focused eye, and to use drawing as a way to explore and learn about the world around us.
