Sumi-e is a Japanese word that means “ink picture.” Learn to paint the sumi-e way using ink, Chinese painting colors, rice paper, and bamboo brushes. Students will paint Minnesota subjects while learning the basic brushstrokes and techniques of the art form. And, since June 21 is the strawberry full moon, the moon will also appear in our paintings.  Discussions will include beginning composition and an overview of the materials used in East Asian brush painting. Class includes demonstration plus open painting time. Brand new beginners and participants from previous sessions are welcome to attend.
