As part of the Art Colony’s 2024 theme of Art + Embodiment, we have partnered with Cook County Care Partners to look at the Art of Health under the topic of Memory Care.
Care Partners Memory Café is a casual, once-a-month gathering for people experiencing dementia and the family and friends who care for them. The Art Colony and Cook County Care Partners are teaming up to offer a hands-on weaving activity where loved ones will together, create an artistic memento. To loosen up, participants will use paint sticks to create a joint partner scribble drawing sparking the whole brain. The main activity is a collaborative weaving on an individual handmade loom. The simple, repetitive process of weaving provides a soothing process. All materials will be provided and as an option, you are welcome to bring upcycled special fabrics, clothing, yarns, ribbons to incorporate into your weaving to create a personalized and symbolic reminder of special memories shared together.
This session is hosted in partnership with Cook County Care Partners and their Memory Cafe program. It is part of a grant project called: The Art of Health: Memory Care. Grant funds generously provided by the North Shore Health Care Foundation. See the other two free workshops that Erin will facilitate in connection with this grant funding.
Participation is free but we do request advanced sign up if you have not previously attended the Memory Cafe events.
